Ever since Jimbo Fisher took over the head coaching job for the Aggies in 2018, recruiting has been a focal point of the program. Most notably when they signed a historic 2022 class that featured nine 5-star recruits, with 17 total in the top 100, and finished first in the country according to the Rivals Composite Rankings.
What came of that class? Basically nothing for A&M. Most of them either transferred, did not live up to the potential, or in certain cases ran into the law.
But now the cycle in question is 2027 and HC Mike Elko is firing on all cylinders. A&M currently holds the No. 1 class on all major recruiting services and there's no debate to be had.
So far, Elko has received 26 total commitments including:
- 5-Star OT Mark Matthews
- 5-Star S Kamarui Dorsey
- 5-Star Edge Zyron Forstall
- 5-Star IOL Kennedy Brown
- 5-Star LB Kaden Henderson
Good. Lawd. That doesn't include the other blue-chip prospects waiting in the wings.
It all starts with Mark Matthews, the top ranked offensive tackle in the country. At 6-6 285, Matthews is a tried-and-true safety net that is proactive in the run game and a neutralizer in passing situations.
But what makes this class so great isn't the stars, it's the tape. Sideline to sideline speed, ball skills, tackling, pancake party. You want it? They got it.
When you get a chance, take 30 seconds to go see the juice of some of these high school seniors. Every time I see a clip, it's an automatic rewatch.
The early signing day window begins on December 4th, and I expect this same group to honor their commitments, but don't be surprised if the 12th Man and a little of those fossil fuels out there in the Alamo reel in some other big names when it's all said and done.
